Wolfe’s Pond Park
Details
This hike is a 3.5 to 4-mile loop through the northern and southern sides of Staten Island's Wolfe’s Pond Park. The terrain is generally gentle but not entirely flat, and there may be two small streams to cross. The trails are mostly unpaved and shared with cyclists.
Transportation: The leader will meet hikers in the Whitehall Ferry Terminal waiting room for the 10:00 am Staten Island Ferry, which connects with the 10:36 SIR train to Princes Bay Station. The hike will commence at 11:30 am from the MTA park-and-ride lot adjacent to the station at Herbert St. and Holten Ave.
Restrooms are available in the active recreation areas on the southern side of the park near the Raritan Bay; lunch will be where and when we find unoccupied tables or benches. The hike will return to the ferry from Princes Bay Station, but the S79 bus to Bay Ridge 86th St. Station, Brooklyn, is an alternative option.
Hikers are advised to check the Ferry and MTA schedules prior to the hike for service changes. Additionally, the SIR train will be treated as a single trip if hikers use the same card or device to pay their fare; the same applies on the return trip.
Mosquito and tick spray is recommended. In the event of rain, the hike will be postponed until May 2nd, at the same time. Note that the hike is limited to 15 persons. If you have signed up but are unable to attend, please save your spot for someone else and withdraw from the hike.
Hikers may contact the leader at 646-675-5787 or by email to: Donrecklies@earthlink.net
