Kiwi Spoting Night Walk & Camping Overnight & BBQ at Tawharunui Regional Park

Details

Hi Everyone..

Looking ahead to warmer temperatures and the start of Daylight Savings, beginning the 28th of September..you may want to add this Nature Discovery Kiwi Hunting and Campground Walk to your Calendar.

Let's wander around after dark to see our native Kiwi Birds in their own backyard amongst the trees, bush and other places we've been here before, capturing the memories with a photo, or just listening and watching these nocturnal native birds move slowly close to where we walk.

We will gather beforehand, here at Tawharunui Regional Park which is an hour plus easy rural drive beyond Matakana and Warkworth.

Setting up Tents from 3pm onwards at the dedicated gated entrance to the Tawharunui Regional Park Campground here , that is a hugely popular destination for Aucklanders , close to the white sand beach for safe swimming, and it's sheltered camping sites, with great toilets, offering a nice , Kiwi Campground Experience, if you have always wanted to give this a go, or want to unpack the tent stuff you have ...group camping is exciting and fun for everyone, particularly if weather conditions are favorable.

Campground Bookings are made easily via the Auckland Council Website or by phone, and are relatively well priced. Your car alongside your tent, we call this outdoor glamping..

Purchase of a suitable tent, need not be expensive, if you want to attend, look at purchasing a second hand one on Trade Me or Marketplace, Temu , The Warehouse etc...Or get proactive ask around your friends, or family.

I have a few extra tents and sleeping bags and additional stuff to Share with you as well.

DINNER - We will have a Shared Pot Luck Meal Together - Bring Food & BBQ from 4pm onwards after putting up Tents .

You will also want to pre-purchase preferably a Red Light Torch which Kiwi Birds cannot detect...and allow us to do our Kiwi Hunting and Spotting easily.

Any white light Torches or Headlights must be covered securely by Red Cellophane or Tape because white light scares the Kiwi Birds away.

It's also important to become stealth walking people...whispering to one another when we leave the Campground in smaller groups. is essential to ensure that this Night Walk is successful.

Previously, Events like this are ruined by Members that don't pre prepare for this Nature Discovery Kiwi Hunting Experience. It's up to each Member to come preferably here with a dedicated Red light Torch or Headlight.
.
I particularly like using Temu , for A Red Light TORCH...as these are cheaper than outdoor shops here .
