Applications at Scale: Microservices and API

Details
## Details
Let's talk about Microservices and API this time!
Agenda:
đź•• 17:30 - Doors open
đź‘‹ 18:00 - Welcome & introduction
🎙18:05 - Building a Public API With Custom Objects
- Romain Tadiello, Senior Software Engineer, Outreach
Managing custom objects in a public API can be a challenging task. Meanwhile handlers used to know in advance the shape of response, request and payload, they now have to adapt dynamically to the changing shapes of those. What about documentation? And integrations? Well, they also need to get notified about modifications and adjust.
🎙18:40 - Microservices at Tricentis – integrating with monolith
- Oleg Yapparov, Engineering Manager, Tricentis
I will talk about our first steps with implementing microservices alongside main application, what were our requirements, what challenges we faced, and what were the lessons learned. I will mention authentication, challenges related to data integrity and validation, code and API duplication. I will also briefly mention our micro frontend service and the way it was integrated with the rest of the UI.
🎙19:10 - Why we needed an API gateway (and maybe you don't)
- Jan Vlnas, Senior Backend Engineer, Mews
At Mews, we're adopting an API gateway, and it will surely make our APIs joyful to use, solve all of our scaling issues, and fixes all of our bugs… I'm just kidding. Though when we faced new requirements for rate limiting and authorization, we turned to API gateway to offload some concerns from our monolithic backend and open up new possibilities for modularizing our APIs in the future.
In this session, I’ll share our journey with API gateways: what we’ve
learned, how we chose the right one, and the latest trends in the field.
🍺19:40 - Networking with drinks and nibbles
…
In addition to interesting talks and discussions, Outreach will also provide you with delicious snacks and drinks.
See you there!
