I have family on Whidbey Island, and visit often. Nearby to my relatives' house near Freeland are both the Trillium Community Forest, and South Whidbey State Park. I propose to go to both parks, starting with the Trillium Community Forest, and continue on to South Whidbey State Park as time and desire permit. As well, we may also go on to explore Fort Casey Historical State Park, or even Ebey's Landing. After we are tired of hiking, I propose to stop in the picturesque town of Langley for lunch or an early dinner at one of many worthy establishments.

This event is right in the middle of Memorial Day weekend, and is designed for those of you who would not otherwise travel for the weekend. I picked Sunday because of local knowledge the Mukilteo/Clinton ferry. This ferry tends to become impacted toward Clinton at the start of a weekend, and toward Mukilteo at the end. The beauty of this Sunday is that it is neither the beginning nor the end of the weekend, this due to the holiday. I am betting there will not be a terribly long wait in either direction. Fingers crossed!

I set the meet time as 9:00 AM, and I think we will be on the 10:00 westbound ferry. We'll across in about half hour, and it is no more than a half hour more to finish the drive to Trillium. We'll start at the Smuggler's Cove Road trailhead, probably around 11:00 AM.

I've set the end time of the event as 9:00 PM, which is absurdly long. I have no idea how long all of you are going to want to extend the day. Probably we can choose carpools, or rearrange them later among people who want to return home at approximately the same time.

The Internet tells me that both the Trillium Community Forest and South Whidbey State Parks welcome dogs, so long as they are leashed. Fido is welcome at this event provided he or she is friendly with new people.

I don't have a weather forecast two weeks out, but this is primarily designed as a fair weather event. We can consider rescheduling or canceling if we have too much rain. However, I have feedback from some of you that you would like to do the event, but are busy Memorial Day weekend. So if the event goes forward - and is fun - expect to see it again on the calendar in June.
