Green Bay Beach

Details
Sounds like a nice destination but I was disappointed when I got there. You will be riding past Green Bay beach and Blockhouse Bay beach, but you won't see them. The beach is down a VERY steep road/path. Nevermind the rest of the ride is enjoyable. Mainly on cycle paths, with some on road riding on quiet roads.
Park at Heron Park off Cadman Ave.
From here we head to Waterview Reserve via back roads. Crossing over the Gt North Rd we travel along the South Western cycle way with which most will be familar. We don't cross the railway bridge but turn off to head along the cycle track to New Lynn. Portage road has a marked cycle lane but it is not separated. Turn at Cannaught St before the beach. No point in going there the view is blocked by trees. We will stop at the Icoco cafe on Blockhouse Bay road for coffee. After coffee we continue on the footpath to Margate Rd where we turn to head back to the South Western cycle way.
Across to War Memorial park and Underwood Park we rejoin the main cycle track and head back to Heron.
Distance is 26km.
Elevation gain 254m There are some hills from Green Bay beach.
Please bring a spare tube for your particular bike wheel size.
We travel at circa 15ks an hour except for down hills.
We have a tail end Charlie to make sure riders do not get lost. We are not too fond of leaving people behind.
Assistance will be rendered for any mechanical issues but we are not bike mechanics.
