Western Loop Ride

For those who like Cycleways, Road Rides and poking around Auckland suburbs.

This is a combination ride of the North West Cycleway, the Henderson Cycleways, Roads between Henderson and New Lynn, New Lynn to Avondale Path, Waterview Path. It is 100% concrete so road tyres are fine however there are a few hills in here so an Electric bike will be a happy choice. Circa 35km.
A summary of the route is:

• Start at Eric Armshaw Park which is down from Point Chevalier.
• Cross over Great North Road onto North West Cycleway
• Cycle West to just past Te Atatu and Join Henderson Creek Path
• Carry on through Opanaku Stream Path
• Turn left at Henderson Valley Rd to end of Parrs Cross Road
• Back to Henderson on Oratia Stream Path
• At Millbrook Road turn right and go through 14 roads to Rata street
• Cycle Way to Memorial Drive
• Up the Avondale to New Lynn path alongside railroad
• Lunch at Brown Street Café
• Down the Waterview path to Rainbow Path
• Back to Eric Armshaw Park.
  Most of you will be familiar with the Henderson Paths and the Waterview path as they are regular appearances on our rides. Most of the smaller streets are reasonably quiet however there are lots of road crossings involved so care and confidence in traffic will be required. I have done this path several times but there are so many turns involved I still need a list – sort of like Rosemary’s ride around Millbrook. Brown Street Café in Avondale will be familiar as we have ridden there before – menu available on Internet – thankfully the ride after lunch is all downhill.

So if you feel like getting a little lost, some exercise and a nice lunch come along. As normal then:

• Please bring a spare tube for your particular bike wheel size.
• We travel at circa 15ks an hour except for down hills.
• We have a tail end Charlie to make sure riders do not get lost.
  - We are not too fond of leaving people behind.
• Assistance will be rendered for any mechanical issues but we are not bike mechanics.
• If you are signed up for the ride but change your mind at the last minute please text or phone me on 021 348 979 to advise. Same if you are running late.
• We will still ride if it is just showers but will likely postpone if it is heavy rain, wind or both.
