Ngaruawahia to Hamilton Gardens - return - Te Awa Trail

If you have not done this ride before, you will love this one!
It is reasonably flat, grade one and concrete path all the way to Hamilton Gardens, where we will have lunch.
We start at Ngaruawahia squash club where there is parking and go past the Golf Club, over the spectacular Perry Bridge and continue over a series of humps until the Horotiu Bridge where you recross the river. From there we go past the Fonterra dairy plant and get into the tighter parts of the track into Hamilton. There are a couple of short bits where you need to walk and a detour through the town however generally it is a very pleasant commuter track.

Hamilton Gardens are home to fantastic gardens, which you may be tempted to wander through!! BUT hold everything . . .
Unfortunately, we will not have time to view the gardens as we wont have the light at the end of the day. So please resist the temptation to go visit the gardens.
After lunch we ride back to Ngaruawahia.

Total length is 56kms (28km each way).

Normal rules apply:

  • Please bring a spare tube for your particular bike wheel size.
  • We travel at circa 15ks an hour except for down hills.
  • We have a tail end Charlie to make sure riders do not get lost. We are not too fond of leaving people behind.
  • Assistance will be rendered for any mechanical issues but we are not bike mechanics.
    - If the weather goes AWOL we will move it to another date.
  • Check your bike is serviceable, brakes, tyres, chain.

Suggest we car pool down and back. Use the comments section to communicate.
