Beachlands, Maraetai loop
Details
Meet at Pine Harbour. There seems to be plenty of parking there, in fact we might not find each other, so if we haven't met up before then meet at the life boat (see picture below) at 10.30am (note the 10.30am start for lunch around 12.00 )
We will ride up the cycle path next to Angiangi Cres. When we get to Whitford Maraetai Rd we will very carefully cross the road and head for Okaroro Dr. I'm not a big fan of riding on the main road, but it is only a short distance, and there is enough room to keep out of the way of traffic. At the end of Okaroro we enter the forest used by the Pohutakawa Coast mtb club. Now strictly speaking you should buy a day pass online. I'm in my 3rd year of membership and nobody has ever asked to see my pass, so we will sneak through just this once. It takes about 20 minutes to get through the forest on the gravel road. We are not going on any mountain bike trails. We exit into Maraetai Beach. After a short look along the beach we head for the path which takes you around the coast to Omana regional park. Sticking near the coast we end up back at Pine Harbour (Perpperjacks Cafe) for lunch. I'll put up the Strava picture.
Distance 22km.
Elevation gain 309m. So there are a few hills. Yeah, the ride is a bit short but the hills will make up for it!
Please bring a spare tube for your particular bike wheel size.
We travel at average 15km/h.
We have a tail end Charlie to make sure riders do not get lost. We are not too fond of leaving people behind.
Assistance will be rendered for any mechanical issues but we are not bike mechanics.
