Burswood to Botanical Gardens

Burswood to Botanical Gardens
This is a ride from John Spray’s Monday Ride series and covers a whole lot of parks in South Auckland which many of us may not have seen. There are some great views from the top of Mount View – worth bringing the cell phone for.
Leaves from Huntington Park on Huntington Drive off Te Rakau Drive near Botany Downs. 10.30am Start. Parking is limited but can be found on side streets around park.
Ride covers the following:
- Greenmount Reserve
- Kellaway Drive Reserve
- Logan Carr Park and Kilkenny Reserve to Point View Drive.
- Point View Reserve
- Gracechurch Reserve
- Barry Curtis Park
- Roads in Totara Park
- Around the very bottom and west of Botanical Gardens.
- Botanical Gardens Cafe
These are linked up by short sections of road – mostly quiet.
Return by Reverse route. 35km total.
The problem with good views and this area is that there are a fair few reasonably steep hills involved both on and off road. While parts of this ride are flat, overall this ride is a battery killer and you will be looking for the turbo button at times for sure. Parts of it are off road but not overly extreme so you need tyres which are capable of say Rail Trails. If there is any rain street tyres would be a definite No. Good Brakes are an absolute requirement.
The good news is that is a very satisfying ride which will leave you with a real sense of achievement at the end.
As normal then:
- Please bring a spare tube for your particular bike wheel size.
- We travel at circa 15ks an hour except for hills.
- We have a tail end Charlie to make sure riders do not get lost. We are not too fond of leaving people behind.
- Assistance will be rendered for any mechanical issues but we are not bike mechanics.
If you are signed up for the ride but change your mind at the last minute please text or phone me on 021 348 979 to advise.
