For those who like exploring the North Shore and some spectacular views. As with any ride on the shore this one comes with three long hills and 640m of elevation. Real battery killer so you need 500w minimum. It is however 100% concrete on either cycle paths or quieter roads but there are some road crossings you need to be careful of.

I would rate this ride as Intermediate - Suitable for all types of bikes, however, ebikes are recommended due to changing terrain which includes hills, mostly designated concrete paths and occasional road traverse. Confident riders with low/medium level of experience is recommended. Pace is slow/moderate.

We’ll meet and depart from Milford at 10:30 am.

We’ll head along Penning Road, then follow East Coast Road towards Sunset Road. This section is on shared cycle paths.
We’ll then turn left and ride towards Constellation Bus Station via the Northern Busway. This section is on the road. Please be careful of other cars.
From the bus station, we’ll join the Northern Cycleway and head north to Oteha Valley Road. It’s a smooth and enjoyable section of the ride.
We’ll turn right onto Oteha Valley Road, then continue onto Medallion Drive and ride towards Fairview Avenue, climbing all the way to Lonely Track Road.

It’s a long climb, so please ride at your own pace.
At Lonely Track Road, we’ll turn right and continue towards Glenvar Road. There are some great views along this section, so take a moment to enjoy the scenery.
We’ll follow Glenvar Road via Glenvar Ridge Road and arrive at Long Bay Beach, where we’ll stop for a short break and use the restrooms if needed.

After the break, we’ll ride through the Nature Trail before stopping for lunch at Eatery Long Bay.

After lunch, we’ll begin our ride back.
We’ll start with a long climb back up towards Lonely Track Road—a perfect way to burn off lunch!
From there, we’ll enjoy the scenic ridge road as we make our way towards Gills Road.

Next comes a long downhill section before joining Dairy Flat Highway. You’ll pick up plenty of speed here, so please make sure your brakes are in good working order before we set off.
We’ll then turn left onto Albany Highway and follow the safe shared cycle paths to the Upper Harbour Motorway cycleway.
From there, we’ll join the dedicated cycleway and enjoy another long downhill ride towards Constellation Bus Station.

After that, we’ll retrace our outbound route and return to Milford Beach.
We expect to arrive back at around 2:30 pm.

As normal then:

  • Please bring a spare tube for your particular bike wheel size.
  • We travel at circa 20ks an hour except for down hills.
  • We have a tail end Charlie to make sure riders do not get lost. We are not too fond of leaving people behind.
  • Assistance will be rendered for any mechanical issues but we are not bike mechanics.
  • Riders are encouraged to wear Hi Vis or visible colours at least

If you are signed up for the ride but change your mind at the last minute please text or phone me on 027 949 7500 to advise. Same if you are running late.
