Abstract:
Open Source Software is Federally Included in Canada with Katie McMillan
This talk aims to summarize how the Government of Canada includes open source software in terms of including it in key policies, directives, and tools, as well including key groups, departments, and people. It also seeks to include important historical considerations.
Can You Not? How to Get Your Agents to Actually Behave with Robert Babaev
LLM-based agents are notoriously bad at following directions, from mildly irritating deviations to literal production-crashing commands. In this talk, you'll learn why that is, what kind of guardrails exist, and how you can leverage the tools already in your favourite coding agents to avoid that dreaded "I ignored all of the instructions you gave me" message.
Speakers:
Katie McMillan is an enthusiast and evangelist for open-source software. Her interests include applications, operating systems, and broader topics such as standards, interoperability, quality, and community building.
She has been active in many areas of open-source software, including serving in roles on several boards and contributing to open-source software projects.
Most recently, Katie serves as Secretary for Software in the Public Interest and is a member of the Canadian Association for the Club of Rome.
Robert Babaev is a DevOps Software Developer working at Acre Security. His experience spans software development, penetration testing, SOC operations, and even GRC. Ever since his first flag in a CTF back in 2019, Robert has wanted to lock down a better future.
