Trey Bilbrey Lead Adversary Emulation Engineer @ SCYTHE || https://www.linkedin.com/in/georgebilbrey/ Trey is Lead of SCYTHE Labs, specializing in Purple Team Exercises, Threat Emulation, Critical Infrastructure, and holistic cyber operations. Trey's 17+ years of industry experience has allowed him to become an excellent educator, defender of networks, and a cultivator of cybersecurity professionals. Prior to joining SCYTHE, Trey held positions at notable organizations such as Hack The Box (HTB Academy content Developer), The Army Corps of Engineers (ICS/SCADA Penetration Testing), and a veteran of the United States Marine Corps (Defensive and Offensive Cyber Operations). Current certifications include the CISSP, GICSP, GCIP, and K>FiveFour RTAC.

Abstract:
Every week a new spooky headline makes the rounds, whether it is a zero-day, a nation-state threat, or the latest malware campaign with a catchy name. The result is that organizations hit the panic button, leadership loses sleep, and teams waste time chasing ghosts in the wire that may never cross their path. In this Ghostbusters themed talk, we will unpack why these fear cycles keep haunting security teams, how panic spreads faster than phishing emails, and what it really takes to tell the difference between shadows and real specters.
