Presentation Details
Speaker: Gregory Mason

Protecting our native flora and fauna requires building a strong defence tailored to prevent harm from the predators and pests that threaten them. This starts with a physical fence spanning 8.6kms defending against constant threats utilising a range of techniques. These threats can also be understood to create effective monitoring and incident response. Considerations are also made for environmental challenges like storms and waterflow, and visitor access.

Specifically, this talk follows the work by Zealandia in conjunction with the Department of Conservation in designing and constructing the predator proof fence. A major success story in conservation that offers a learning opportunity for building our own digital 'fences'.

Informed defensive strategies for both digital and natural worlds are key to good outcomes, making this an evergreen topic (pun intended).
