The OWASP New Zealand-Hamilton Meetup launched in July 2024 and meets five times per year.
Our approximate agenda for the evening:
- 6:00 p.m. - Gather and networking
- 6:15 p.m. - Introductions (people, OWASP, OWASP NZ), Top 10 Topic

We started our introductory coverage of the OWASP Top 10 (2021 edition) with A01:2021 in July, covering a new item each meeting.
Our Top 10 topic for May will be A05:2021 - Security Misconfiguration.
Technical Topic Speaker: John DiLeo
Talk Title: Baking Security In: An AppSec 'Critical Path' for Developers
Abstract:
"We're Agile, so there's no time for that" - This is a response I often get, when first suggesting to a development organisation that they need to start doing Threat Modelling, Security Testing, or other Application Security (AppSec) activities. These are frequently seen as heavyweight tasks that interfere with delivery, instead of the quality and efficiency multipliers they actually can be.
In this talk, I'll present my thoughts on key Software Assurance activities development teams should include in their day-to-day development practices. I'll also touch on how they can be introduced to an existing team's development cadence with (relatively) little disruption.
==========================
We're always looking for presenters and topics for future meetings - contact John (john.dileo@owasp.org) if you have an idea for a topic, or a presentation you'd like to make. That way, it won't always be John talking about what he's been working on recently.
The Hamilton OWASP NZ Meetup usually takes place on the third Tuesdays of March, May, July, September, and November. There is no Meetup in January, as our members enjoy their holidays.
