Film Screening: The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari + Live Score at UPP

Join us for the screening of Robert Wiene’s silent classic The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari at the Ultimate Picture Palace, featuring live musical accompaniment by musician Hugo Max, who will perform an original score written especially for the film.

Film description
Set in a small German town during a carnival, the story follows Dr. Caligari, a mysterious hypnotist who unveils his eerie attraction: Cesare, a sleepwalker said to predict the future. By night, however, Caligari awakens Cesare to carry out his dark commands.

Created in 1920 amid the social and political upheaval of post–World War I Germany, Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari is the defining work of German Expressionist cinema that shocked audiences and forever altered the course of filmmaking. The film’s radical aesthetics and chilling narrative not only established the template for cinematic horror but also influenced generations of filmmakers, from Hitchcock to Burton, making it one of the most important milestones in film history.
