Join us for a special screening of the Polish film Man of Marble (Człowiek z marmuru) (1976) at the Ultimate Picture Palace, presented as part of the 24th KINOTEKA Polish Film Festival. We will watch the film together and head for drinks and a debrief afterwards to discuss this cornerstone of the "Cinema of Moral Anxiety" (Polish: Kino moralnego niepokoju).

This year’s KINOTEKA festival is anchored by a major retrospective of films by the Academy Award-winning auteur Andrzej Wajda, marking the 100th anniversary of the director’s birth. Wajda remains one of the most influential filmmakers of post-war Europe, viewing cinema as a vital moral, civic, and political act.

About the film
In the 1970s, young filmmaker Agnieszka investigates the life of a 1950s bricklayer and worker’s hero. When she learns that the facts behind his story were suppressed, she has to decide whether to pursue the truth or not. Man of Marble is a thought-provoking examination of the moral responsibility of an individual and art in challenging dominant ideology, censorship and oppressive authorities. It’s a powerful milestone in Polish cinema.
