Discussion: Drawing Memory – Waltz with Bashir and Persepolis

Details
Join us for a discussion about Waltz with Bashir by Ari Folman and Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, two animated films that use visual storytelling to explore memory, trauma, and the personal dimensions of political upheaval.
Waltz with Bashir (2008, Ari Folman): An animated documentary in which the filmmaker attempts to recover lost memories from his time as a soldier during the Lebanon War. Through dreamlike visuals and fragmented recollections, Waltz with Bashir explores the psychological toll of violence, the unreliability of memory, and the lingering ghosts of war. – Accessible on Curzon Home Cinema (7-day free trial available).
Persepolis (2007, Marjane Satrapi & Vincent Paronnaud): Based on Satrapi’s graphic novel, this autobiographical animation traces her youth in revolutionary Iran and her years of exile. With minimalist visuals, the film captures the inner conflict of a young woman caught between cultures, ideologies, and her own evolving sense of self. – Available to rent on Amazon Video or to stream on Studiocanal.
