For our February meetup, we are very excited to have Charlie Hadley giving a talk on "Interactive data visualisation in R Shiny with {htmlwidgets}"

Agenda:

6:00 pm: Talk "Interactive data visualisation in R Shiny with {htmlwidgets}" by Charlie Hadley

7:00 pm: Pizza!

Abstract:

In this talk Charlie’s going to introduce {htmlwidgets} - the collection of packages you wish you knew. With these packages you can create interactive charts, graph, tables and maps all in R without needing to learn any JavaScript.

On top of {htmlwidgets}, Charlie will also demonstrate the fundamentals of using {shiny} to build server applications all with R - and she’ll show how to combine these with the {htmlwidgets} to build impressive and beautiful tools.

Charlie also has a background in reproducible research methodologies and so will talk about how you can use these tools to create an end-to-end reproducible Open Data workflow. The same workflow used by the University of Oxford’s Interactive Data Network she helped launch.

Speaker bio:

Charlie has been teaching reproducible research methods with R and the tidyverse in academia and industry since 2015. At University of Oxford she launched a data visualisation service using R and shiny, and has been a visiting lecturer at Birmingham City University for their Healthcare Data Science MSc since 2022.

Commercially, she’s been creating successful courses on LinkedIn Learning since 2016 and through several training consultancies with specialist experience in financial and HR data. Charlie’s also recently joined the Admiral’s Data Academy as their first Data Coach to lead developing a training platform for the FTSE 100’s diverse data community of over 700 individuals across all regions of their UK business.
