Henley on Thames- Middle Assendon – Bix – Grey’s Court 18km/11 miles
Details
This circular hike of approximately 17km/11 miles begins in the centre of Henley.
After a short walk through the town, we are soon heading into the countryside of the Chilterns AOB following the Oxfordshire Way towards the small village of Middle Assendon in the Stonor Valley.
Our journey take us past the ruins of a small Norman church dedicated to St. James and was used for scenes in the 1971 film Blood on Satan’s Claw. We continue to Bix past the replacement St. James's church which was completed in 1874 and and into Famous Copse woods before arriving at Grey Court, a Tudor country house run by the National Trust on the outskirts of Rotherfield Greys.
We will stop at Greys Court to use the toilets but will not be stopping to use the café. You will need to bring your packed lunch and water.
Our journey then continues to Grays Green Farm where we pick up the Chilterns Way and our final leg back into Henley.
We will meet outside the train station entrance. There is toilets at the station and plenty of off street parking nearby which is free on Sundays.
You will need a packed lunch and plenty of water.
