We are really for fortunate to have Guy Maskall giving us a talk this month.
Guy is Data Science Manager at Cobalt Light Systems Ltd, an Oxfordshire-based company spun out from STFC to commercialize applications of Raman spectroscopy, and a data science mentor and community manager with Springboard, a global platform with offices in San Francisco and Bangalore that offers UX and data science courses. Having gained a PhD applying machine learning techniques to the problem of classifying vehicles in radar imagery, he joined Cobalt in 2010 to develop the data processing and detection algorithms for the INSIGHT100 liquid explosive detection system now deployed worldwide for aviation security screening.
In this talk he'll outline his career path that lead to finding himself in what the Harvard Business Review described in 2012 as “The sexiest job of the 21st century”. Along the way he'll cover his original choice of R as a programming language, why the “R vs python” debate is old, and how you can start using python for doing data science regardless of what python you currently know. He'll also describe his new Oxford-based meet-up group concept. As such this talk will be of interest both to experienced python developers (so long as they don't laugh) and complete novices alike looking to get started gaining insight from data.
This should be a really interesting insight to both developers and anyone interested in the subject of Data Science..
We hope to see you all there!
