"Tobler’s first law of geography (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tobler%27s_first_law_of_geography): “everything is related to everything else, but near things are more related than distant things”. Python is a popular choice for data science and more traditional geographic information systems, combining the features we know and love with powerful libraries for geospatial data wrangling.
This talk will provide an introduction to working with spatial data (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spatial_data_infrastructure) in Python, for data analysis and presentation. It should be of interest to (aspiring) data scientists and cartographers, anyone who can’t go hiking/running/cycling without taking a GPS, or anyone who has been to a place. No existing experience with spatial data is required.
Joshua (https://twitter.com/Snorfalorpagus) is an environmental scientist at Atkins (http://www.atkinsglobal.co.uk/en-GB/uk-and-europe/sectors-and-services/sectors/water) working in the water industry. He is a contributor to the Toblerity project (https://github.com/Toblerity), a collection of Python libraries for manipulating, querying and processing geospatial data."
Snacks, sandwiches and beer are being kindly provided by Reqiva - Digital Careers (https://www.reqiva.com/) so please RSVP if you'd like to come along and we'll make sure there is something for you on arrival.
Hope to see you all there.
