Faster CPython โก and MicroPython ๐ on wearables โ
Details
๐ OxfordPython is back ๐
We are very excited to announce the return of OxfordPython after an extended break. To kick off our first talks of 2023 we have two speakers:
Mark Shannon - How we are making CPython faster. Past, present and future.
Many of you will have heard that Python 3.11 is considerably faster than 3.10. How did we do that? How are we going to make 3.12 and following releases even faster?
In this talk, Mark presents a high-level overview of the approach the core team are taking to speed up CPython. Starting with a simple overview of some basic principles, showing how we can apply those to streamline and speed up CPython. Finally, making estimates about how much faster the next few releases of CPython will be, and how much faster Python could go.
Piers Storey - Wasp-os, running MicroPython on wearables
The Python ecosystem touches so many technologies from simple scripting to web, mobile apps, Science research, AI, Mars rovers, embedded systems and so much more.
In this talk, Piers explores the work the wasp-os team has achieved in developing both the ability to run MicroPython on a smartwatch but also the tooling and methods to allow any developer to create wearable apps easily.
We would like to thank the amazing team at GitHub Oxford for kindly hosting the event at their offices in Oxford (PingPong and Pool tables are an added bonus).
Also, our thanks go to our sponsor Corriculo who is providing refreshments and nibbles...
If you would like to join us for an informal evening of Python goodliness followed by an optional visit to a local watering hole for natters after you would be warmly welcome.
