Join us March 05th:
We're featuring an engaging talk by Dick and Mary Pat Weber about the famous Thunder Bay Amethysts of Canada! 🇨🇦
Whether you're a season collector or just discovering your rock-solid passion for gems and minerals, this is the perfect time to join the club. Come for the knowledge, stay for the camaraderie and leave with a newfound appreciation for these dazzling purple treasures! 😍
Amethysts are among the most enchanting gemstones, admired for their rich violet to deep purple hues. Their color, which can range from soft lilac to intense royal purple, is caused by traces of iron and natural radiation. When cut and polished, amethysts exhibit a mesmerizing brilliance, with facets that catch the light in captivating ways.
Fun facts: Beyond their beauty, amethysts hold deep cultural and historical significance. In ancient Greece and Rome, they were believed to prevent intoxication—hence the name, derived from the Greek word amethystos, meaning “not drunk.” (Full disclosure - we can't guarantee.)
Royalty and clergy throughout history adorned themselves with amethyst jewelry, associating the gem with wisdom, power, and spiritual clarity. In medieval times, it was a symbol of piety and used in religious artifacts.
Everyone is welcome; let's grow our community together!
