Whales Watching along Kurnell to Cronulla: Botany Bay Coastal Walk ~16 KM

Details

Join us for a stunning coastal walk along the Kurnell to Cronulla section, through the scenic Botany Bay National Park - and maybe a secrect cave. This route offers beautiful ocean views, historical sites, and whales watching opportunities along much of the path. Afterwards, we’ll relax with a late lunch in Cronulla at a local pub. Good fitness is recommended, and also long beach/sand walking is involved!

Before you RSVP, be sure to read the following:

  • Difficulty: Medium to Hard, mostly harbourside with bushlands, rocky surfaces, and some elevation gains.
  • Start at Prince Charles Pde bus stop opp Kurnell Post Office after 9 am. Take 987 from Cronulla Station at 09:45 AM to reach there if using public transport, finish at Cronulla Station late afternoon. If driving, use station car park.
  • Route: We’ll start at our meeting point and head to Prince Charles Parade, walking the Monument Track past Captain Cook’s Landing Place. Next, we’ll take the Muru Trail to Cape Solander Lookout (and a quick walk to the secrect cave nearby as pictured, only if weather permits and path is open, or we'll skip), followed by Cape Baily Coastal Track to the lighthouse, Boat Harbour Aquatic Reserve, and a long walk on Cronulla Beach before the finish near the station for an easy train ride home!
  • Support Oz Outdoors: A $5 contribution is appreciated to help cover our Meetup subscription and group running costs. Carry Cash or ask for PayID.

Important - Please Read:

  • What to Bring: Wear proper hiking shoes, bring ample hydration/water (1.5 litres), enough snacks and lunch (no option to buy during the hike), sunscreen, hat, and weather appropriate clothing.
  • RSVP Responsibly: Your RSVP is a commitment. Please update it at least 12-24 hours in advance if you can't join. No-shows or repeated late cancellations may affect future participation or lead to group removal.
  • Be Early: Arrive early, all event details (route, what to bring etc.) are in the description. Hosts usually cannot respond to messages (waitlist, directions or late arrivals) given they have look after the event organisation and attendees safety.
  • Community Walk: This is a volunteer-led walk with fellow enthusiasts. Please keep the host within sight. You're welcome to leave at any time if needed, just let the host know if possible.
  • Safety First: Your safety is your responsibility. By attending, you agree to follow all instructions, current rules, public health orders, and OZ Outdoors guidelines: https://www.meetup.com/ozoutdoors
  • Feedback & Get Involved: We're proud of our positive community and 4.8 rating! If your experience wasn't quite 5-star or you have suggestions, please message host directly, always keen to improve as a volunteer. Interested in leading? Would love to hear from you!
