What we’re about
Craving fresh air and epic adventures? We explore everything from city parks to far-flung wilderness. Hiking, camping, paddling, day trips, long holidays or anything else - if it's outdoors and awesome, we're in!
By joining OZ Outdoors, you agree to read and follow our rules and guidelines, which will also address most of your questions:
Safety Guidelines:
- Choose activities that match your fitness level: Read every event detail carefully to see if this suits you and your fitness, never go to events unprepared. Assess your abilities and communicate any concerns with organisers if necessary.
- Risks and Preparedness: Members and guests are responsible for their well-being. Be mindful of potential risks associated with outdoor activities and bring necessary gear, the organiser will tell you what to bring in every event description.
- Health and Safety: The event organiser or host is not liable for injuries or health problems during events. Be prepared, follow any safety instructions, and inform the host if you have any medical conditions.
Attending an Event
- Attendance: Your RSVP is a commitment to attend. Please only RSVP "Yes" if you genuinely plan to join, and only attend if your RSVP is confirmed (not waitlisted). Always update your RSVP (even from the waitlist) if your plans change. Repeatedly ignoring these guidelines, including no-shows, last-minute cancellations without good reason, habitual lateness, or being unprepared for the event, may result in removal from the group.
- Timeliness: Always be on time, and arrive at least 10 minutes early if the event location is unknown to you. Unless it’s an emergency, you should not contact the organiser asking for directions. It may not be safe and practical for them to attend calls and guide people while organising the event.
- During the Event: Follow instructions and stay with the group. If you fall behind, you must navigate by yourself.
- Guests: Ensure guests are aware of and adhere to the guidelines. You are responsible for their safety.
- Children: Individuals below 18 can join meetups rated as easy only with the event host or organiser's permission, and parents must supervise them all the time.
- Bringing Pets: Pets are typically not allowed due to mixed and pets-prohibited sections. However, in the case of an urban trail, you can request permission from the organizer beforehand. If approved, the pet owner assumes full responsibility and must ensure it doesn't inconvenience others.
General Guidelines
- Community and Respect: Joining our meetup group is completely free! However, if you don’t follow these rules and guidelines, your memberships may be terminated if necessary to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all. The organiser's decisions are final about events, attendees, waitlist, or anything happening in the group, it cannot be challenged. We aim to create a community where everyone feels welcome and valued, free from any disrespect, abuse, or misbehaviour.
- Communication: Use chat/comments responsibly. Avoid irrelevant communication and unnecessary contact with organisers, as they are not obliged to reply. Keep comments clear and avoid posting reasons for not joining or weather updates, these may clutter and confuse others, but don't hesitate to ask something unanswered.
- Contributions: We believe in the power of community support. For your first event and beyond, consider contributing a gratuity, or the prescribed fee in case of a tour or paid event to help cover costs as per the event description. Your generosity greatly contributes to the success of our events, covering costs such as the Meetup subscription fee, and event planning and organisation. Just to clarify, our event fees/gratuity (usually $5 for hikes) are separate from Meetup+ membership. Meetup+ is an optional $10/month feature that prioritizes you on waitlists and allows unlimited messaging, but it does not cover event fees.
- Privacy: Respect members' privacy. Obtain consent before taking pictures and delete any after posting on the group. If you do not wish to be included in any photos, please inform the organiser before the event.
About Us:
This group is managed by volunteer organisers and hosts, with event contributions going toward the organising expenses, Meetup subscription, and relevant certifications like First Aid and CPR. Extra funds are also donated to support community initiatives and charities.

- Northern Beaches - Palm Beach Loop Walk to Barrenjoey LighthousePalm Beach Wharf, Sydney
A spectacular Palm Beach Adventure walk, hiking from Palm Beach Wharf to the top of Palm Beach, visiting the Secret Garden & continuing on to Barrenjoey Lighthouse, returning along Pittwater.
Bring your lunch as we will stop after a big hike up the mountain, leaving Pittwater behind, counting hundreds of steps by the time you get to the top & entering the unexpected Secret Garden to eat your own lunch & enjoy some of the best views you will see on the Northern Beaches looking out to the Pacific Ocean and Central Coast including Lion Island & the Lighthouse, which will be our next mission.
We walk down towards the ocean coastline through a small rainforest and through Summer Bay from the Famous show "Home & Away". If you like watching the soapie, many of the places you see on the show, you will see on our walk. We get to our 2nd climb, up the old narrow track, straight up the south side of the headland, all the way to the Barrenjoey Lighthouse. There are some smaller tracks to do once on top of the sandstone plateau. This is also one of the Best Spots to look for whales as we will be overlooking Pittwater, the Hawkesbury River & Pacific Ocean all at once & this is the time of the year, when the whales head north to have their Bambino's. You may choose to wait patiently for a sunset or continue down the main track with the group.
Before it gets too dark, we will continue moving down the main track and along the edge of Pittwater back to our starting point. From here there will be an optional dinner & live music, just around the corner, if you would like to join in for a meal.
