Grade: C+
Length: 10 miles
Ascent: 300 m
Pace: Medium
Dogs: OK, so long as they are kept on a lead where necessary in the vicinity of the farmland beside the river and on the approach to Shenavail.
The walk begins by crossing the Tay Bridge, one of General Wade’s bridges, built as part of the opening up of the Highlands in the early 18th century, before following the river upstream through the fertile farmland of the Appin of Dull.
The route then turns north to Dull via Carse Farm. During early Christian times, there was a monastery at Dull and ‘appin’ means abbey land. After Dull the track then heads east towards Camserney and gives lovely views across the valley before passing Shenavail and entering the plantation on the southern flank of Weem Hill.
Further on are the abandoned ruins of the hamlet of Rawer.
Eventually, the track leads down Weem Hill to the village of Weem and the B846, and a short walk along the famous Poplar Avenue back to the starting point.
We'll start walking at 10:00 hrs prompt from Taybridge Drive, Aberfeldy, beside the Black Watch Monument. Please let us know if you're held up or unable to join us by messaging the event organiser via this Meetup website so that we can proceed with our walk without delay.
Car sharing is a friendly option that gets people out who might not be able to do so otherwise 😄. We will stop at a convenient point on the way for lunch. Refreshments are available at the Watermill, Mill Street, Aberfeldy, PH15 2BG
