Castle Law Woodland Walk from Abernethy - 6.5 miles
Details
Join me on this autumn woodland loop walk from Abernethy towards and beyond Castle Law, which has the site of an iron age fort.
Excellent panoramic views can be seen to the north, and of the Tay estuary to the east on a clear day from Castle Law.
Grade: Steep!
Length: Approx 6.5 miles, 10.5 Km
Total Ascent: 550m, with maximum height at Castle Law of about 250m
Pace: Medium
We meet at the Mercat Cross, Main St opposite The Nook cafe, in Abernethy at 1030am. Parking is available in the village surrounds or local car park a short distance from the meeting point. The route will proceed mainly uphill initially, becoming steep, towards Castle Law via narrow local paths and steps. Thereafter onwards via Cutty's How, south of Crowclag, Ayton, Barclayfield and return to Abernethy via Quarrel Knowe.
The route has some significant uphill climbs and is mildly rough and challenging in some sections so please ensure you have the fitness and agility to complete this walk. Much of the route is within woodlands but there are also exposed sections. There are no especially wet or boggy areas but good gripping footwear is essential.
There will be short stops to re-group when necessary and for snacks, so bring adequate fluids and nourishment for the duration. Dogs are welcome, provided they can be kept on leads when requested, or when conditions require it.
Please note the slightly adjusted from usual start time at 1030! Our aim is to return to the start point at 2pm.
