Departing at 10 am sharp, this fabulous (on a clear day!) circular walk will take us easterly along the coast towards Rosyth. We will take in fantastic views across the Forth towards a former prison in Blackness Castle. The Queensferry, Forth Road and Rail bridge crossings stand majestically in the background of the Industrial port of Rosyth with its dockyard.
Heading up a slight incline to Pattiesmuir and onto Lord Elgin’s wooded and farmland estate. Part of his estate will soon be handed over for housing, creating “Kingswood,” a new southerly extension of the old capital of Scotland, Dunfermline. With views of Dunfermline Abbey and the palace in the distance. On through Pitliver estate, following the Lyne burn until it reaches the Forth River.
We will be under the watchful eye👀 of the MOD as we navigate close to the main munitions depot for our fleet of Naval ships, which frequently visit the Dockyard.
A disused railway line takes us to Charlestown, where the heritage site of the Lime kilns gives great insight into its industrial past. We will spend a little time here to give everyone the opportunity to explore. We return through Charlestown back to Limekilns, where a coffee and cake can be had at The Coorie Café just opposite.🍰🧁☕️☕️
On-street parking is available if the car park is full.
