Loch Farleyer from Castle Menzies nr Aberfeldy: C+ hill walk 8.5 miles circular
Details
Grade: C+
Distance: 8.5 miles
Ascent: 360m / 1170 ft
Pace: Medium
Walking from the Castle Menzies car park the route climbs steadily from the Tay valley up into the moorland above to a forestry track which heads west. When reaching the track leading south to the village of Camserney, we then head northwest on a fairly steep track, which eventually takes us to open moorland and Loch Farleyer, a remote and tranquil loch nestled in the hills. From there, we walk generally east, then southeast into Tay Forest Park, eventually reaching the outward track.
Although much of the walk is on good estate tracks, after leaving the loch, the way becomes rougher and after rain, the tracks can become waterlogged. There are a couple of burns to cross.
The section leading south towards the ruined village of Rawer seems to be seldom used, and there are very boggy sections and some fallen trees, so small detours have to be made. Walking poles are advised.
