This is such a special treat to have Katie, an experienced hiker and beautiful friend, as a guest leader for this hike. I (Merb) will be her co-lead. I can carpool in her car for up to 3 so please text me 704-224-8559 if you'd like to ride with me. My home is in Southend and we can meet there.
NOTES FROM LEAD, KATIE;
This park is about 60 miles from uptown Charlotte. Meet at the trailhead, past the park office continue on the main road until end in a large parking lot. AllTrails directions are accurate that trailhead. There are restrooms and water fountain/water refill stations at the trailhead.
We could add mileage and do the loop but I haven't done that part of the trail. The main waterfall (High Shoal Falls) isn't open but there is another nice waterfall (big bear falls) that is open and wouldn't add much distance if people want to go to the waterfall afterwards.
Much of this trail has shade but do make sure to bring any snacks and plenty of water as it will likely be hot and it's a good workout.
