- Rachel: Toronto Zine Library (https://www.torontozinelibrary.org/)
From sci-fi, to queercore, to punk and to riot grrl, zines have served as an integral medium for members of subcultures to express their fandom and expose critical issues. Not only acting as a conduit for self-expression, zines have additionally played an important role in connecting people within and across countries around shared interests as a means of communication. This talk will cover the role of zines and zine culture in building and connecting communities before and during the rise of the internet; additional discussion will consider the complimentary role of online media in contemporary zine culture.
