Hands-on Session on Google Glass Mirror API
Google Glass is not dead!
Eric Smidt said: "[Google Glass] is a big and very fundamental platform for Google”, “We ended the Explorer program [on January 19, 2015] and the press conflated this into us canceling the whole project, which isn’t true. Google is about taking risks and there’s nothing about adjusting Glass that suggests we’re ending it.”
While Google Glass is getting a makeover, join us for a hands-on session on mobile back-end development and the Google Glass Mirror API.
If you own Google Glass or not, this session is for you. We will use the Google Glass playground and will have Google Glass devices available thanks to Augmate (http://augmate.com/)
You will be able to go through the complete process of deploying a web application that interacts with mobile devices and wearables.
The session will cover:
-
Setting up a local environment (Maven, Java etc)
-
Getting the Google Glass Mirror API quickstart project going
-
Exploring servers options (Google Compute Engineer and Amazon Web Services EC2)
Make sure you have the following software installed before coming to the Meetup:
• JDK
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html
• Maven
http://maven.apache.org/download.cgi
• Google App Engine SDK for Java
https://developers.google.com/appengine/downloads
• Java Quickstart Project from Github
https://github.com/googleglass/mirror-quickstart-java
If you know how to set up everything, go right ahead! If you don’t know or have doubts, we’ll cover everything when we meet.
Note: Mac and Windows people are welcome! (Also, anyone is welcome! Pace Student or not)
Our speaker is Diana Melara. Diana Melara graduated from Pace University with a Master in Computer Science. She is currently working at Fox News. She has been developing for Google Glass for the last year. She developed Everyday, a Google Glass app that lets you know about funny and standard holidays http://bit.ly/1C10VGf and is part of the Intellibins team http://intellibins.com that proposes a recycling solution for Glass/Android/iOS.
