The pressure to be strong: a conversation between men and women
Details
👋 This session is open to men and women. We'll hear from both sides.
--
Most of us have been taught to be strong from a young age. For men, it often means holding things in, not asking for help, and being the one others rely on. For women, it often means being independent, holding it together on your own, and not coming across as too emotional or too needy.
This session is about what that pressure does to us, and what it's like to hear the other gender talk about their version of it.
🗣️ What we talk about:
- What being strong means to you, and what you feel you have to do to be it
- Where that picture came from (your parents, culture, a message repeated over years)
- How it looks in different situations (at work, with a partner, with friends, with your parents)
- What happens when you can't keep it up
- What you've learned about the other gender's version of it
⏰ Time and details
We will start at 10:30 am. We'll meet at the mezzanine level. Please look for a paper with "PACED" written on it. And please be there a few minutes early so you can grab a coffee if you want. That way we can start on time.
