About us
About our local chapter:
The Pacific Northwest Chapter is about support and community for those who have left religion or may be questioning their beliefs. We meet in person on the first Saturday of every month at 11am Pacific time. If the group is interested, we'll walk over to a nearby cafe afterwards to hang out - whoever wants.
Attendees can remain anonymous if they so choose and are not required to tell their story if they do not wish to, but everyone will be welcomed to do so.
In the meantime, this group also shows several RfR-wide virtual/online events, listed here as "network" events that anyone may join. You do not have to live in specific areas to join those meetings; all are welcome! Please see the events section for more detail.
What Recovering from Religion is about:
The primary focus of Recovering From Religion is to provide ongoing and personal support to individuals as they examine, change, or possibly choose to let go of some of their religious beliefs. We are NOT here to tear down beliefs or tell anyone what to believe, but we ARE here to provide support and healing through what can be a very difficult time. This transitional period is an ongoing process that can result in a range of emotions, as well as a ripple effect of consequences throughout an individual’s life. As such, RfR support group meetings are safe and anonymous places to express these doubts, fears, and experiences without biased feedback or proselytizing.
We are here to help each other through this process.
There is no cost to attend this group but, if you feel so inclined, donations can be made at www.recoveringfromreligion.org/donate
If you find you need to talk with someone before the meeting date, RfR has a hotline and online chat for that express purpose. Call (844) 368-2848 to speak with someone or go to www.recoveringfromreligion.org to chat online.
At RfR we are peer supporters, and not professional therapists. If you find yourself needing additional professional help, we can suggest you also check ou the Secular Therapy Project. This website provides options to connect with a professional therapist who will use evidence-based methods to help their clients (no rosaries or faith healing needed). All therapists have been thoroughly vetted by our organization and offer only evidence-based and non-religious treatment. Many have their own fees, insurance contracts, and some offer therapy on a sliding scale fee. Connect with them at www.seculartherapy.org.
