In September 2019, the Python Software Foundation published a Request For Proposals to develop critical security features for the Python Packaging Index (PyPI). This came on the heels of several high-profile instances of hackers using PyPI as a platform for malware distribution.

From typosquatted package names to arbitrary code execution in setup.py, learn about popular attack vectors that threat actors leverage to get users to download and execute their code. With these attacks in mind, we’ll then describe the new malware detection system integrated into PyPI, the specific kinds of checks that are already instrumented, and conclude with an explanation of how you can help fight malware on PyPI.
