Willow and Woods Canyon Lake

Camp out with us at the Rim near Willow and Woods Canyon Lake. Kayaking, camping, hiking, fishing, cookouts, and good fellowship. Some of us will bring drums and other musical instruments where we can make some music and have a drum circle.

I will be up there to reserve spots on Thursday, 9/5. You are welcome to come for the whole event through Sunday, or just one or two days, or make it a day trip.

This is a beautiful area overlooking the rim, surrounded by trees. This is a dispersed area, so no campground amenities, bring your own everything. It is first come first served, so I plan to go up Thursday night to grab some great spots. The sites that we would want are 4,5,7, and 8, for those who may get up there before me. This area is RV friendly.

Woods Canyon Lake and Willow Springs Lake are nearby, where we can see nesting Bald Eagles, Heron’s, and Osprey.

There are paid campgrounds in the area for some who want to camp where there are some amenities, and then join us for various activities during the day and evening. There are also cabins in the area for rent, I think in Heber. If you just want to come for the day you are of course welcome.

Directions:
The drive to the rim is about two and a half hours. Take the 87 Beeline Highway to Payson 60 miles, right on 260 East 29.3 miles, at which point 260 has reached the top of the rim. Here is Rim Road to the left, Old Rim Road to the right. Take a right. You will see signs for our group posted on the road, Paddle Arizona. Drive down the dirt road past the ranger visitor station about 2 miles. You will see another Paddle Arizona sign when you have arrived at our campground.

Bring food for potlucks (dinner, breakfast), lunch.
