Scenic Marley Creek & paddle to dinner at Ramshead

Details

I'm mostly booked the next two weekends, so you'll have to rely on Katie or (gasp) plan your own weekend adventure. But I still want to get out on the water and a few friends from the Hiking for Brews group might tag along. This is a do-over from last week if you missed that one.

Marley Creek is a delightful wooded and residential river which is a stark contrast to the gritty industry just to the north on Curtis Creek.

We will launch from the beach at Solley Cove Park and head south, perhaps poking into some of the coves on the east side and spotting some cool birds. We'll turn around after about 1.5 miles so the folks who don't want to paddle after dark can get back to the put in around sundown. This does mean that we have to leave PROMPTLY at 6:00 in order to get the most out of the evening.

OPTIONAL (but recommended): We will be very close to Ram's Head Dockside if anyone wants to grab a late dinner. They have a beach that we can paddle up to and outdoor picnic table seating. Anyone staying for this leg MUST bring a white beacon light for their boat for the paddle back. Please also bring a leash or piece of rope to tie off at the dock because there is a decent chance that the beach will be mostly swallowed by the tide during dinner.

This is event is suitable for paddleboards (hard or inflatable), recreational/touring kayaks, and canoes, but not inflatable kayaks. Everyone must WEAR, not just bring a USCG-approved life jacket or PFD. The temperature will surely drop after sundown, so I would recommend only wearing synthetic fiber clothing so you're not cold AND soaking wet.

The last half-mile of Carbide Road is unpaved. Keep following the signs for the American Legion or paintball park. Keep right at the American Legion and drive past the old put-in. The new parking lot is straight ahead, past the paintball park. Pull straight through the jughandle/left turn to get to the unloading area and please don't block the boat ramp.
