Paddle Black Hills Park (4 miles) - Probable season closer
Details
Black Hills Regional Park is a beautiful and usually calm place to go paddling, and one of the few places where you can launch your own craft OR rent equipment! Alas, rentals are closed for the year, though I might have room on my roof for one other boat. We'll do a 4 mile circuit along the east side of the reservoir and perhaps see some beavers or otters in the sunken forest. Some parts of the shoreline have just hit peak leaf season, so there are still plenty of colors to see.
This event is suitable for all types of kayaks, paddleboards (including iSUPs), and canoes. As always, inflatable "kayaks" and rafts are prohibited in this group. Everyone must WEAR, not just carry, a USCG-approved PFD.
The water temperature is currently flirting with dangerous territory (60°), so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't come dressed in cotton. If it gets wet, you WILL have a crummy day. Packing a spare set of clothes in a dry bag isn't a bad thought, either.
Montgomery County Parks charges a $5 fee to use the park. Please bring $5 cash for the honor box or purchase your pass online the day of at their website. Don't be surprised if the website repeatedly crashes and you are unable to complete it.
