I am lucky enough to be a volunteer turtle scout for Hobe Sound Nature Center. What is a turtle scout? Myself and other volunteers go out and look for Loggerhead Sea Turtles at the beach as they come out of the water. Once a female starts laying her eggs into the egg chamber that she just dug; the other staff members and I bring you down to watch this a female sea turtle drop her eggs into the egg chamber. Afterwards she will cover up the chamber with sand and head back to the sea. This is amazing to watch. YOU HAVE TO PAY THE EVENT FEE THROUGH THE HOBE SOUND NATURE CENTER. YOU MUST PAY IN ADVANCE. NO EXCEPTIONS. THESE SPOTS GO QUICKLY. BOOK IT NOW THRU THE HOBE SOUND NATURE CENTER. I will be adding the link soon but you can always go to the Hobe Sound Nature Center website and find the Sea Turtle Walk reservation button and pay for your group. Sea turtles have their own schedule BUT this event will run from 8:30pm until Midnight as that is when the sea turtles lay their at eggs (they lay them all night actually). HSNC recommends that participants bring bug spray and water for the turtle walk. We also recommend wearing comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear (i.e., for walking the beach). Although we are typically off the beach by 10:30 p.m., some walks last until midnight. No lights on the beach during nesting season including cell phones. There will be a presentation at the Nature Center of what you are going to see after you check in. After the presentation; you will drive down to Hobe Sound Public Beach and wait with the Coordinator until us Turtle Scouts let you know that it's time to come down on the beach and watch the eggs drop into the test as the female is in a trance. It's so cool!!! Got questions? Text me at 561.260.2628 or call the Hobe Sound Nature Center at (772) 546-2067 for more information.
