Leisurely flatwater paddle on the Farmington River from the state boat launch on the Rainbow Reservoir in Windsor, CT, upstream to the Route 187 bridge in East Granby CT and back downriver to the reservoir. Plenty of bird life, mostly undeveloped shoreline, plenty of time to socialize. It is a total of 7.73 miles up and back, Approximately four hours on the water.
Bring whatever you need in the way of snacks and drink.
The address of 118 Merriman Road, Windsor, CT, in your GPS will get you very close to the launch site entrance. More anal directions, from the Rainbow River Watershed Association, are: From Simsbury, take Rt. 10 to Rt. 315 east to Rt. 189 east to Rt. 187 north. From Rt. 187, north of the Farmington River bridge, turn right onto Seymour Road and then make a right onto Rainbow Road. Then turn right onto Merriman Road. The access to the state boat launch is .2 mile on your left. From Rt.91, take Rt. 20 east (Bradley Field exit) and turn right onto Hamilton Road exit, then left at end of exit onto Hamilton Road and finally right onto Rainbow Road for 1.1 miles and left onto Merriman Road. Access to the state boat launch is .2 mile on your left. More info about the Farmington River is at http://frwa.org/

10 am is launch time, plan accordingly please.

Required equipment: PFD (on and fastened), 10-foot length of rope, whistle, headlamp/flashlight (for evening paddles). And be prepared to give your emergency contact number to the host if he or she asks for it.
