Farmington River upriver from Curtiss Park, Simsbury, CT

Details

We will put in at Curtiss Park in Simsbury, paddle upstream for a couple hours or so and then back down to where we started. We’ll take a picnic/snack break at the beautiful Drake Hill Flower Bridge (http://www.simsbury-ct.gov/culture-parks-recreation/pages/the-old-drake-hill-flower-bridge ). Optional: Depending on our energy level, we may continue up to the famed Pinchon Sycamore, the largest sycamore in the Northeast, at the Route 185 bridge
(http://www.courant.com/features/hc-daytrek-pinchotsycamore.apr1300-story.html ).
(It is 3.5 miles to the Flower Bridge and 5.3 miles to the Pinchon Sycamore, so this is a paddle of up to 10.6 miles)

Curtiss Park is on Rt. 315 (Tariffville Road) just south of Tariffville, CT. Take the entrance into park opposite the soccer fields. It’s at the northern end of a long wooden fence and is a dirt road. There is a marked crosswalk where you turn. A GPS address to get you close to the turnoff is 53 Tariffville Rd, Simsbury, CT. Follow dirt road to launch, unload boat and park. Launch is very friendly, shallow and sandy. We will paddle to left (upstream) and return downstream to launch point.

10 a.m. is launch time. Plan accordingly please. Last minute cancels or are you running late? Call or text to 561 315-0528 Ron Haines
