Salmon River, Moodus, CT

10 am is launch time, please plan accordingly.
(Note: We will put in at Sunrise State Park, about a half mile below the Leesville Dam. Do NOT go to the state boat launch at the juncture of the Salmon River with the Connecticut River. I will not be there. Pay attention to the directions please.)
We will use the Salmon River put in at Sunrise State Park, Moodus, CT. The entrance is a nondescript, deserted looking, two-lane asphalt driveway on the west side of Route 148 (Leesville Road). It looks like the entrance to a deserted and neglected resort, because it is. The area was the Sunrise Resort before the state bought it in 2009 and opened it up in 2014 as Sunrise State Park. It is across the road from Lake Mini-Ha-Ha at Cave Hill Resort. There is no official state park sign yet. It is just north of Machimoodus State Park, which is at 128 Leesville Rd, Moodus. A GPS address of 121 Leesville Road, Moodus, will get you very close to the entrance to Sunrise Park. Follow the road, it turns this way and that, but will get you to the water eventually. (You may see something called Echo Farm Road on the map. There is no road sign with that on it, so don't look for a road by that name.) We will paddle a half mile upstream to the falls and fish ladder and then back downstream three miles or so, exploring Pine Brook and the Moodus River along the way, and then back. Figure two to three hours on the water, up to eight miles of paddling.
Required equipment: PFD (on and fastened), 10-foot length of rope, whistle, headlamp/flashlight (for evening paddles). And be prepared to give your emergency contact number to the host if he or she asks for it.
