Menunketesuck and Patchogue Rivers, Westbrook

Details
Meet at 9:40 a.m. to launch by 10:00 a.m. from the Menunketesuck River boat launch, 20 Old Clinton Road, Westbrook to make best use of the 12:27 p.m. high tide. This 11-mile paddle (and can easily be shortened by turning back sooner) starts by heading south on the Menunketesuck River and just before the Long Island Sound, we will paddle east on the Patchogue River to the end and return the same way. Expect to see more ospreys per mile than any other tidal river in Connecticut. These are calm, tidal rivers, although wind can always be a factor, and there will likely be some chop when we round the corner near the Sound. There are no porta-potties or bushes at the start location, so please use a highway rest area before your arrival. Paddlers must provide their own kayak/canoe and other equipment. Bring lunch, snacks, and water. Per club policy, a life jacket must be worn for the trip duration.
Rain cancels. Any weather-related changes will be published via email by 7 a.m. the morning of the paddle: don’t let advance forecasts scare you away — they are frequently wrong, and in the warmer weather, when it rains, that rain is often in the late afternoon when we are off the water
