Lake Lillinonah to the Shepaug Dam, Newtown

Meet at 9:30 a.m. at Pond Brook Boat Launch, 160 Hanover Rd, Newtown with an expected launch by 9:50 a.m. Moderately paced 8-mile paddle (about 4 hours) along the forested shores of the southern end of Lake Lillinonah with a loop past the Shepaug Dam, including the exploration of several small coves. There is much shade along the way to shelter paddlers from the hot summer sun.
Paddlers must provide their own kayak/canoe and other equipment. Per club policy, a life jacket must be worn for the trip duration. Bring lunch, snacks, and water. Rain cancels. Any weather-related changes will be published via email by 7 a.m. the morning of the paddle: don’t let advance forecasts scare you away — they are frequently wrong.

Directions: I-84 Exit 10 to Route 6 West for 0.6 miles. Right onto The Boulevard (becomes Hanover Rd.) and travel for 3.4 miles. The launch is on the right. You can unload your car in the area directly facing the launch, but do not leave your car there because vehicles with trailers need the space to maneuver their trailers.
