Meet at 10:00 a.m. to launch by 10:20 a.m. from the boat launch at the Keith Mitchell Forest, 324 Roosevelt Dr. (Rt. 34), Seymour. We will paddle about 8 miles round trip, heading north toward the Stevenson Dam on Lake Housatonic, which is the section of the river formed by the Derby Dam before heading south to land at Indian Well State Park for lunch. Possible mild quickwater and some rocks in the section nearing the Stevenson Dam, which can easily be avoided by turning back sooner as we approach that area. Those wishing to paddle a shorter distance are welcome to skip the loop down to Indian Well. We are paddling the section described on pages 52-55 of the Housatonic River paddling guide.
Paddlers must provide their own kayak/canoe and other equipment, and should bring lunch, water and snacks. Per club policy, a zipped life jacket must be worn for the trip duration. Rain cancels. Any weather-related changes will be published via here by 7 a.m. the morning of the trip: don’t let advance forecasts scare you away — they are frequently wrong.
