Housatonic and Naugatuck Rivers, Shelton
Details
Meet at 9:00 a.m. to launch by 9:20 a.m. at the Sunnyside Boat Launch behind Sunnyside School, 418 River Road (Route 110), Shelton. Enjoy a moderate-paced 10-mile paddle (with 7-mile option) on the quiet upper tidal section of the Housatonic River, along with the tidal section of the Naugatuck River. We will have a boost from the incoming tide (high tide is 10:44 a.m.) as we paddle north, and from the outgoing tide, plus the current, as we return to the start. Shorten to the trip to 7 miles by skipping the Naugatuck River section and having a longer rest break.
Per group policy, paddlers must wear a zipped/buckled life jacket for the trip duration. Paddlers must provide their own boat and equipment. Be sure to bring a lunch and water. After unloading your boat, you have to drive up the short hill and park near the baseball field, as parking access at the launch is limited to people who purchased a Shelton launch permit.
Rain cancels. If the weather is uncertain, the leader will post an update by 7 a.m. the morning of the trip.
