Meet at 9:30 a.m. to launch by 9:50 a.m. from the Hadlyme Ferry boat launch, 155 Ferry Road (Rt. 148), Lyme, just north of the Hadlyme Ferry. This 10-mile out and back trip is planned to make good use of the 1:00 p.m. low tide at the launch and 12:15 p.m. at our turn around point, giving us a boost in both directions. We will paddle down the Connecticut River passing along the west side of Selden Island en route to the mouth of Hamburg Cove (which we are not entering) as part of the leader’s quest to paddle all navigable sections of the Connecticut River. He is missing the section between the southern end of Selden Island and Hamburg Cove, a section that many other paddlers probably have not done.
Paddlers must provide their own kayak/canoe and other equipment, and should bring lunch, water and snacks. Per club policy, a zipped life jacket must be worn for the trip duration. As temperatures are getting cooler, paddlers should bring a jacket and a light hat, along with a change of clothes in a dry bag.
Rain cancels. If the weather is uncertain, contact the leader by 7 a.m. the morning of the trip to determine if he plans to paddle. This trip can easily be modified to shorten it, should the weather be uncooperative during the trip.
The Chester-Hadlyme Ferry is currently not operating and may not be operating on Oct. 4, so plan to use roads and bridges to reach the paddle from the west.
