Many dam releases on rivers have ended for the recreation season and the water levels are getting lower, but unless it gets under 700 CFS by Saturday, we will proceed on this run.
We will do 12 miles of Class I-II water from Wolfe Creek Access on the French Broad to 25/70. This includes the exciting section with DEL RIO. Most of the first 5 miles are fairly laid back. There are only 2 Class II's on this whole section, but remember the water is lower and won't be as pushy either. There are many islands to adventure around if water levels allow, 4 lively significant wave trains on the 2nd half of the trip, small ledges and much bird life as it all flows throughout quiet rural countryside. Last year we spotted 3 Eagles, Osprey, Cormorants, Kingfishers, etc. Also rock bluffs are interspersed.
THE FALLS is a bigger ledge all across the river, but a chute on river right makes a way around fairly easily.
Must be experienced in class I-II, have PFD, whistle, 7' line on bow of boat, lunch and all your own whitewater gear for the day.
NO INFLATABLES or SUPs PLEASE. MUST have skirt w/sit-in. Please have everything D-clipped (water bottles, etc) to your kayak.
Note the location is to meet at 9, not the put-in.
