Details
I'm very excited for our April Page to Screen selection which will be Winter's Bone (2006) by Daniel Woodrell and its screen adaptation of the same name from (2010).
If I had planned this better I would have scheduled this in a winter month. But April can still be a bit chilly and I didn't want to wait until the end of the year, lest I forget or change my mind.
Karl and I have had this film floating near the top of both of our lists for some time, just never pulled the trigger on it for one reason or another, but now it's finally time.
Karl dubbed this the genre of "Hillbilly Noir." It's a perfect description. I don't want to say any more about this story but if you're looking for feel-good, upbeat or happy, you won't find it here. For some of you, that's probably all I have to say to get you on board. For those of you that need a little more convincing, this small indie film made a splash during the 2010 festival season winning the Grand Jury Prize in the Dramatic Film category at Sundance. Additionally it garnered 4 Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor (John Hawkes) and a Best Actress nomination for a then relatively unknown Jennifer Lawrence. You could say the film is "Bone-a-fide." That's bad even for me.
Hope you can all join us for this journey deep into the Ozarks!
