For April we've decided to cover a traditional western as a companion to May's revisionist western selection. As far as westerns go it doesn't get much more traditional than True Grit (1968 novel and 2010 film). Of course if you want to be real purist there's the original film adaptation from 1969 starring John Wayne and Glen Campbell. I'm planning to watch this version for additional context, but the film we'll be discussing is the Coen Brothers' remake. Starring Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin (there's our connection to No Country for Old Men next month!) and Hailee Steinfeld in her breakout role who we saw recently in Sinners. Hopefully Karl doesn't have any nit picks about her underwear in this one as it pertains to accuracy of the time period, but only time and a rewatch will tell.

True Grit (2010) film is available to stream for free on MGM+, Paramount+, Hoopla, Kanopy, Fubo and PlutoTV. It can also be rented on most of the other VOD platforms.
True Grit (1968) book, can be found in physical and digital formats wherever you find books (Amazon, your local library, your local bookstore, Kindle, etc...).
